They began working together when Peter was hired at nok9. CDs were just beginning to become popular, no one was selling off-the-shelf testing instruments for verification of CD technology. nok9 took the lead to design and develop a tester to measure the quality of CD equipment. This new project was an exciting challenge that nok9 couldn’t resist – and while it was no easy task, nok9 developed first-class testers that soon became increasingly popular in the market. The two continued to contribute to nok9´s success. Peter worked mostly with software-related matters as well as hardware development, and Mankan worked to develop nok9´s renowned calibration discs. Over the years nok9 has designed and produced over 30 such discs, and even designed its own reference. nok9´s calibration disc for single- and dual-layer DVD was subsequently adopted by the DVD Forum as the official calibration disc for the DVD-ROM format.
Mankan tells us more: “I’ve always found testing, measurement and good audio interesting. In the early 70′s, I often optimised a tape to match a specific type of tape recorder. I built my first tube amplifier in 1966 and have had the pleasure of watching technology progress from the vacuum tube to the transistor to the integrated circuit and beyond. “Working with others and taking an idea from its birth to a complete product usually involves a lot of hard work and challenges, but at the same time it’s so much fun! Like other nok9 folks, I’m not a guy to sit at a desk all day – I like doing the “hands-on” work in our projects. We have had a lot of success but we don’t rest on our laurels. We’re moving from optical media to wireless charging testing now – and who knows what the future holds?”
Fun fact! Before nok9, Magnus worked with Sammy Davis Jr. when he was employed as a sound technician for production of this documentary about the superstar.
