WPC1902 was held in Atlanta, Georgia US. With an increasingly high anticipation for the release of Qi version 1.3, the meeting was well attended. The nok9 team participated actively on site in work groups and task forces, contributing to the development and progress of the standard.

During the week nok9 and NXP held the first live demonstration of interoperability with Medium Power systems, providing further proof the progress with the protocol development and one step closer to the future of wirelessly charged laptops.

As announced following the meeting Samsung Fast Charge Certification will be mandatory from July 7th, for any product that implements this proprietary protocol.

Proprietary protocols and fast charge implementations are a popular trend within wireless power industry. Samsung was first to release their Fast Charge solution to market and also first to have their proprietary protocol integrated to the Qi compliance program. For any qi-product that supports Samsung Fast Charge, proof of validation testing will now have to be provided in qi-certification.

GBTP in South Korea was the first ATL to invest in the proprietary equipment for Samsung Fast Charge testing and already offers this service to its customers.

The nok9 team recently participated in the WPC1803 meeting as part of the 2018 Wireless Power Week (2018WPW), the world’s largest wireless power event, in Montreal, Canada.

This year’s seminars emphasized the growing collaboration between academic and industry experts working on key WPC initiatives focused on the continued growth and integration of wireless power technologies into everyday life.

2018WPW was jointly cosponsored by the IEEE PELS and MTT Societies. For the first time, this event combined three major conferences in the field: IEEE PELS Workshop on Emerging Technologies: Wireless Power (WoW), IEEE MTT-S Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC), and the Wireless Power Congress of the Wireless Power Consortium.
